This morning there were several deadly bomb blasts on London's transit system. You can read the whole story here:

My thoughts and prayers are with all who were affected by this savage act, and the British government as they deal with this tragety.

This is just bizarre. I guess it's like hiring a safe cracker to help you build a better safe.

Scott Peterson has just been given the verdict of 1st degree murder of his wife Laci Peterson and 2nd degree murder of his unborn son Conner. This is going to have some rather interesting ramifications to the abortion issue in this country given that a court just recognized that an unborn child was murdered.

I know I've probably been posting too many entries regarding Mount St. Helens but it's big news around here and I just can't help myself.

Today was the biggest blast yet and you can read the full story here. Scientists are still holding to this idea that it won't be anything like the 1980 eruption. After reading this and many other articles I have come to the conclusion that they really have no idea how big the blast is going to be. All of the quotes below are from the same article. Notice all of the contradictions.

“Scientists have said a larger eruption is likely, but there was hardly any chance of a repeat of the mountain’s lethal 1980 explosion.“

“We could have a much larger event, essentially at any moment,” U.S. Geological Survey geologist Willie Scott said.“

“Even in the event of a larger eruption, scientists said there was hardly any chance of a repeat of the mountain’s lethal 1980 explosion or of Hawaiian-style lava flows.“

“The eruption of Mount St. Helens in 1980 killed 57 people, destroyed more than 200 homes and flattened acres of evergreen spruce forest. But experts say they do not believe that the mountain will erupt with anywhere near as much force this time around.“

“But as time passed, others cautioned Monday that volcanic activity was difficult to predict.“

“Right now, we’re thinking it’s about a 70 percent chance that it will erupt and a 30 percent chance that it just might go back to sleep.“

“Scientists were unsure how explosive the eruption may be.“

The news agencies are telling us that an eruption like the one that happened in 1980 is not going to happen. Read more about it by clicking here. I hope they aren't using the same equipment to predict this as they use to predict the weather around here.

I keep hearing people compare the current situation in Iraq to the war in Vietnam as if it were the same or worse. It boggles my mind how people can just casually spew such nonsense as if it were factual.

In Iraq we have had a little over 1,000 US casualties in just over a year of fighting. The Iraqi government and military that was in existence when we entered that country has been successfully defeated and what remains are attacks from a whole bunch of loose cannons playing dirty pool.

In Vietnam we lost well over 53,000 US lives over the span of 11 years. We never fully defeated their military or government and we eventually pulled out.

Can anybody tell me how these two events are even remotely similar???

Looks like Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer are headed for the poor house. Their bonuses dropped $3,447.00 each in the 2004 fiscal year. (Just kidding on the poor house thing.)
